Public Library Concept

2017

A vacant lot in New York’s East Village presented an opportunity to experiment with distributing daylight and color throughout a constructed environment on a diurnal and seasonal basis.

A specially-positioned and styled skylight delivered daylight to a scrim-lined stairwell that cut diagonally through to the base of a multi-level library, distributing light throughout the interior of the space and casting either “cooling” or “warming” tones according to a summer–winter program.
